A modern vertical file.
Libraries kept vertical files so useful paper — clippings, notes, odd facts — could be found again by subject. Vertical is that practice, rebuilt as a set of focused collections.
A file is a topical dataset. A record is one entry. Fields group the material. Facets let you interrogate it. A shortlist is what you keep at hand.
Files do not share a schema. Product history, municipal records, models, people, and places can sit in the same cabinet without being forced into one table.
How a file is kept

- Every file is numbered, dated, and described before a single record is opened.

- An entry with enough context to stand alone: image, source, and the reason it was filed.
- Notes
- Methodology, sourcing, and provenance live with the file, not in a buried FAQ.
