Maison de Verre

Built 1928-1931 at 31 rue Saint-Guillaume, Paris, by Pierre Chareau with Dutch architect Bernard Bijvoet for Dr Jean Dalsace, whose medical practice occupies the ground floor. A steel frame was inserted into an early-18th-century hôtel whose top floor had to be left intact because of a tenant who could not be evicted, and the house is lit by a fully glazed façade of Saint-Gobain glass blocks. It was restored by Bernard Bauchet from 1985 to 1993.
